Kurt Walters has been living in Brooklyn since 1989. Originally from Buffalo NY, he spent his college years in the San Francisco Bay area attending the California College of Arts & Crafts, graduating in 1986 with a Bachelors of Fine Art, with an emphasis in Illustration. He spent the next few years in Munich where he showed at various galleries including, “Schock and Schöpfung,” a local annual exhibition of emerging artists. It was during this time that he first broke into the commissioned art world, creating paintings directly for clients, specializing in classically-based portraits.
Back in the US, he continued to pursue his art career, but eventually became a flight attendant to help ends meet. He did this for 6 years, trying to balance his travel schedule with his painting. In 1999, with financial backing from his partner, he stopped flying and returned full-time to his painting. He created his own company, Seriph Communications, Inc. In 2002, he and his partner decided to pursue turning some of his paintings into manufactured goods, creating a line of Christmas ornaments and plates. Since then, he has been investing considerable funds into product development. A line of 12 christmas ornaments and plates is scheduled to debut for the ’09 holiday season.
His latest work, and prototypes for the merchandise, can be seen in the blog section of this website.
